Chapter 6 - Learning About the World

Fortunately, I was in a better world now, far from all these mentally disabled people.

I focused back on our kiss, gulping her sweat saliva, tasting fresh and light just like she was. My dick, which had already gotten hard as soon as she had removed her clothes, was now twitching joyfully. I heard that boys could get erections even starting from when they are still in their mother’s belly, which means pretty much all their lives. My current state proved that horniness was unrelated to age.

I eventually separated from her, and her little tongue came out of her mouth, wriggling toward me as if asking for more.

“We need to go back now or we’ll be in trouble. Let’s do more later, okay?”

She pouted a little, looking disappointed.

“Okay…”

I patted her head again, which made her squint her eyes contentedly.

“Are you feeling better now?”

“Hmm… Better.”

“Good. You must be strong, okay?”

“Hmm… I’ll be strong.”

I knew it was all in vain, but I was still trying to transform her into a strong woman.

“Good. Don’t worry about the elder and just do your best. Let’s go now.”

She nodded as we dried ourselves before getting dressed again. When we came back to the common cave, a new old woman was already there, waiting for the kids to quiet down.

“The older kids know me already, but for the ones who came today, I’m elder Vores. I’ll be teaching you what you need to know about the world. Follow me.”

The warrior didn’t lie when he said the next physical training was in the evening. It made sense, in a way, since this allowed us to rest, to avoid pushing our young bodies too far. Contrary to what one might think, these prehistoric people knew well what worked and what didn’t. It would be wrong to consider them stupid and uncultivated.

We moved to another large cave, which was filled with graffiti on the walls. No, it wasn’t graffiti. It seemed to be genuine attempts at describing animals, plants, humans, and events as best as possible with contemporary means. When watching more carefully, the doodles were artistic attempts in a world without proper paper or pens.

This time, boys and girls weren’t separated, and even age didn’t seem to matter. When we were all there, the elder clapped her hands to get our attention.

“Let’s start with how the world was created. Who wants to tell about that?”

She was staring at the older children while saying this, and I understood getting all of us together was a way to allow older children to review past lessons. Or maybe they just didn’t have enough elders to separate children into age groups. I didn’t know yet how big the clan was but I estimated it to be a few hundred people. No matter the exact number, using ten people just to teach the children seemed indeed overboard.

A boy around twelve got the right to speak.

“The world was created long ago by the spirits. They came together to create the sun, the stars, the soil, the plants, the beasts, and the humans. They also filled the world with magical energy, and gave the talented ones the right to become shamans and use that energy to perform magic.”

Elder Vores hummed approvingly.

“Good. Who can tell me about the spirits?”

A girl around fourteen talked this time.

“There are many spirits, and we need to worship them for giving us their blessings. The spirit of fire allows us to get warm, the spirit of wind gives us air to breathe, the spirit of water allows us to drink, the spirit of earth makes plants grow in the ground, the spirit of the sun give us light and the spirit of the stars guides us during the night.”

“That’s right. There are many other spirits, like the spirit of the hunt, the spirit of war, and the spirit of fertility. Someone tells me how to worship them now.”

Another kid took over.

“The spirits love the humans and are magnanimous. We just need to have profound respect for them and thank them in our minds every day. Our feelings will reach them, and they’ll continue giving us their blessings.”

“But the spirits don’t only love humans, right?”

There was a little delay this time, but another child answered the question.

“Sometimes, the spirits give their blessings to a beast, which becomes much stronger. In exchange, if a warrior can kill such a beast, these blessings will be transferred to him for his valor.”

“Correct.”

I was following the lesson carefully, trying to understand what sort of world I was in. Of course, I already knew a little from my mother, but this teaching was much more detailed and systematic. I was careful not to dismiss the legends of this world as caveman nonsense since, in a world where magic existed, it was hard to know what was possible and what wasn’t. Plus, the idea of absorbing the power of a blessed beast was also very interesting. I wondered if it was like getting an increase in magical energy or if there was more to it than that.

After that, we were divided into small groups, where older children would play the role of teachers, which solved my question about why we were all together. The elder would choose a topic, and the older children had to try their best to teach everything they knew about it to the younger ones.

This was a smart method since the younger kids focused relatively hard, knowing that later on, they would be the ones having to educate their peers. Elder Vores would walk around the groups, monitoring that no older kid would utter too much gibberish, or that the younger children, who had a low attention span, would stay focused. The topics were wide in range, from how the clan worked to what the outside world was like. It only lasted for a few hours, but I learned a lot even on the very first day.
